Highest score? Mine’s 9160

Do people still care about high scores? this question pops into my head from time to time. Are scores still a good way to track progress in games? Well…. I think it depends on the game. some games, use percentages, and this is great for gamers that have an end, so it may be an adventure game, and you get to see what percentage of the way through the main adventure you’ve got to. But for a classic arcade style shooter game like Space Invaders? I still think high score’s the best option, the game never ends, so you need something.

I’m tested some fixes to my games to introduce higher refresh rate support, until now, my games have only been targeted at 60hz displays, but as higher refresh rates screens, like 90hz on the Google Pixel phones or 120hz on the higher end Samsung Galaxy phones, reviews have been saying my game’s too fast. So now I’ve got a 120hz phone and am fixing this….. But I want to fix other things, like adding more fun. So I recently (maybe not that recently) added accuracy scores to my main Invaders game, so you get a percent accuracy score for each stage you complete, and now I’m thinking I should have accuracy score tables, is this a good idea? Who knows?
